"The foundation of our national policy will be laid in the pure and immutable principles of private morality; ...the propitious smiles of Heaven can never be expected on a nation that disregards the eternal rules of order and right which Heaven itself has ordained..." George Washington
The Preamble
We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
To me, The Constitution is a way to balance the power between the government and the people of the United States. The Constitution is a good way to give the government power, but not too much and to give the people power, but not so much that the government becomes incapable of giving the country a central control. At the time that The Constitution was made the United States weren't doing well at all. After winning the Revolutionary War, our nations leaders were scared to give the government too much power because that is what they had just fought countless year to escape from. However from giving the people so much power, the government wasn't able to contribute whatsoever and the states seemed like separate nations instead of being united. This is why James Madison held the Constitutional Convention and called upon the brightest minds of the time to create a document that would establish peace and liberty among the people.
